I’ve been writing about volunteering and helping others for the past month. The result?

I feel better.

I feel better about who I am and the difference I make in the world. I feel better that it’s NOT all about me. I feel better that with each person I help, I know that my ideas are being implemented to help someone create a better life. I have been working with an exceptional young woman over the last month. Her name is Anne Reuss. Anne was referred to me by a colleague of mine who asked if I could help Anne find a position in social media. It turned out that by helping Anne, my life became better.

Leadership 12-29

This is the initiative I started more than five years ago to help young professionals get better starts in their lives. To help them I have mentored interns, hired interns, given hundreds of free talks, written books for them like “Graduate to LinkedIn,” and given away books and e-products like training videos, etc.

I am now working with others who want to gift their time to help these young professionals. So “Occupy Wallstreet?” In my world I don’t think about what is not working. I roll my shirtsleeves and ask “How can I help? Where can I help?” Stay tuned for Anne’s blogging on her experience starting a business with my help. You can learn from it and perhaps, maybe, just perhaps, you too can help someone and find yourself happier for it like I have.
